The Journey to become a CMMC Certified Assessor
Becoming a CCA is a defined path, and we’ll help you every step of the way.
It starts with registering through the Cyber AB and entering the CMMC ecosystem. From there, you complete CCP training, pass the CCP exam, and then submit for the required Tier 3 clearance. While that’s taking place, move into CCA training to learn how assessments are actually conducted. After passing the CCA exam, you can submit your resume and experience packet to the Cyber AB.
Along the way, you also meet the cybersecurity industry certification requirements that validate your technical credibility. Once all requirements are satisfied, you become an official CMMC Certified Assessor, qualified to participate in real CMMC Level 2 assessments.

Our training schedule is designed to be flexible and easy to plan. Select a CCP course first, then follow with your CCA course:

CCA Training: February, April, June, August, October, December
CCP and CCA courses run every other month, making it simple to move from CCP to CCA without long gaps and stay on track toward certification.

Meet the Instructor
Mark DeBry
Mark is a Lead CMMC Certified Assessor (CCA), Provisional Instructor for CCP and CCA courses, and President & Co-Founder of 1st Defense CMMC. With more than 25 years of experience in IT, cybersecurity, and compliance, Mark brings real-world perspective from both enterprise and federal environments. His career includes senior leadership roles such as Head of Cybersecurity for IBM Global Services and Cybersecurity Director for Microsoft’s Federal Government division.
Mark has participated in over 30 CMMC Level 2 assessments, giving him deep, hands-on insight into how assessments are actually conducted, what assessors look for, and where organizations succeed or struggle. His training goes beyond theory, sharing real examples, lessons learned, and practical guidance that prepare students for the realities of the CMMC ecosystem.
He holds certifications as a Certified Information Systems Manager (CISM) and Project Management Professional (PMP), and a master’s degree in Information Systems Management. Outside of work, Mark is a father of five and enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, and playing and coaching sports.
